Believe in synchonicty ?
Even heard of off the grid living ?
Life has a habit of whacking you on the nose when you don't pay attention.... Until quite recently, I was going along minding my own business and following my own path and decided it might be a great idea to enrol in a horticultural course. This is not a new thing. We have grown our own food for decades. I scuttled along to this course expecting to find out "a wee bit more" about how to"do it better" when WHAM ! It was like when something hits you at a million miles an hour in a split second of time. We were watching our tutor/teacher/life-pointer-in the-right directionist was slicing up an apple to illustrate how the earth has only 1/32nds worth of usable space to grow all the food for everyone on earth. Google "The Earth as an Apple" to see what I mean It got worse - it turns out that we only have the equivalent of the skin of that 1/32nd of the apple to feed everyone on earth. It was pretty graphic. Beginning to see the importance of soil now ? Starting to see the relationships in that Web of Life ? As the apple got sliced smaller and smaller it became obvious that the earth's soils, the resources we have, the water we have are precious beyond price. Now I don't usually wax lyrical and go in for lengthy epistles but this has really struck a chord. Not only a chord but practically the whole orchestra was playing ! How can we generate our own energy and live off the grid for any sustained period of time ? How to be self sustainable in any way ? There is the small matter of being addicted to the computer for a start and what about the electric toilets with heated seats - but I jest :) Fortunately, we have the elements of nature to help us. All we need is right here and constantly renewable and sustainable. Wind, sun and water and its easier than you might think......... plus you can save a whack of money and get yourself off the national grid.
Reasons to get off the grid:
- Live wherever your choose
- Save money on electricity
- Save the planet
- Fun building your own power systems
- Make renewable energy
