Off the Grid and Loving it - Renewable Energy and how to begin generating it

Off the grid living  ?
Is it for the birds ?
How would you get on if you had to generate enough energy/power to run the "must haves" in your life ?
Would you be able to sustain yourself for even a week ?
How important is  the whole energy thing anyway ?  And why should we even bother ?
Do you know how easy it is to build your own off grid living gear ?
You can save a stack of money by DIYIt can be quite simple with the right instructions and done using tools you probably already  have at home.
Building it yourself is far more cost effective than purchasing the ready made renewable systems
Live the good life  wherever you choose when you  live off the grid and stop being reliant on the national grid.
But how do you begin to generate your own electricity ?
From scratch, without any know how  ?
Like Zilch, nada ......
Like eating an elephant - one bite at a time, that's how.
First step, rethink your life.  If you enjoy camping you will LOVE off the grid living !  For you it will be paradise, its like camping at the Hilton but for those of you that hate camping it will be a bit of an uphill struggle unless you come to grips with the fact that you might have to do without some of life' s little luxuries - like electric toilet seats :))
You will be smiling though when others are complaining about how much they are spending on power, griping about the traffic, whining about how they can't get fresh eggs, veggies, don't have time to turn around and are stressed out to the max keeping all those balls up in the air and don't dare stop in case they all come crashing down.
Decide what is the most important stage first, for example, do you want a wind generator or solar.
Did you know you can construct your own solar panel or wind generator for $100 -  $150 ?
Stepping into the unknown can be an exciting adventure or total freakout -decide to make it an adventure and you will reap the benefits super fast.

Permaculture Garden Visit

We went recently for a visit to a local eco village and saw some permaculture gardens and came back inspired to switch ours around (again) They had quite a few compost heaps, and lots of interesting ideas, like climbing frames for plants and  companion planting

Curious Neighbour

Seems neighbours are still peering over the fence even in the country ! But its pretty neat to have four legged neighbours and friendly as well.  We had forgotten how curious cows are !  One of our ex-farmer told us to put a radio outside and the whole herd will arrive to see what is happening. get your own four legged curious neighbours and live the good life  in the countryside
